Gabriel

Gabe

Born: March/April 1996
Died: February 13, 2004

I don't know much about Gabe's history. About all I know is that he was found December 2000 in Spokane, Washington in a severely emaciated state and that SpokAnimal recommended he be put down as a vicious dog. Aside from being nearly starved to death, he was obviously abused in some way as well. He had a scar on his back, as well as several scars on his face, and got frightened when voices were raised, if you lifted up you hand abruptly, or if you picked up a stick or hose. By his physical condition and the circumstances of his rescue, I believe it possible that he may have been used as a bait dog.

Gabe was placed into foster care after he was rescued, was adopted in March, then returned because he chased the adopter's cat. I adopted him on April 1, 2001. I was told when I adopted him that he was 4 years old. His original name was Brutus. That name did not fit his personality and disposition, so I re-named him Gabriel, after the archangel.

Contrary to what SpokAnimal reported, Gabe was not a vicious dog. He was friendly to everyone, whether they were human or not. Everyone who met him fell in love with him.

Gabe passed away on February 13, 2004. He had developed a severe case of Wobbler Syndrome (Cervical Vertebral Instability) and became paralyzed in three legs on February 8, 2003. He was in excrutiating pain and had to be humanely euthanized.
