Have you ever wanted your own Friesian but they were cost-prohibitive? Now's your chance! At Obsidian Moon Ranch, we offer our Friesian mares for breeding lease.
We are very proud of our broodmares. Over the years, we have purchased and/or bred mares of the highest quality and proven bloodlines. So other people can have the opportunity to utilize these bloodlines and have a Friesian of their own, we are offering our mares for a Breeding Lease. This is a perfect opportunity to breed to a high-quality mare without spending a lot of money to buy one. You can get your own Friesian for a fraction of the cost of purchasing one outright, and that cost is spread out over a year's time.
Details
Our mare will remain on our farm during the lease period. A lease fee will be charged for use of the mare. This fee is to compensate for wear and stress to the mare's body due to pregnancy and labor. You then arrange for transported semen for whatever stallion you prefer, provided that it's an approved Friesian stallion, compatible with the mare leased. All costs associated with breeding the mare will be your responsibility. These costs include, but are not limited to, stallion's stud fee, shipping & container deposits, veterinary insemination & boarding, broodmare-specific supplements, broodmare vaccinations, and foal registration. The resulting foal will be yours! Foals are weaned between 4 - 6 months old. Boarding fees for the foal after weaning will be applied until transport has been arranged.
Stallion fees for approved FPS stallions average around $1,500 with $1,000 being the lowest (Sibald 380) and $2,000 the highest (Mintse 384).
Breeding to approved KFPS Friesian stallions is preferred. Obsidian Moon Ranch will consider breeding to other stallions, but an additional fee may be applied.
We are more than happy to assist you in your choice of stallion for the mare. Lessees are always welcome to come visit the mare and foal. Also, if you're new to the Friesian breed, please read through our Friesian FAQ and Friesian Care FAQ. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
The mares available for breed lease are Jeldou fan Bonnie View and Wietske Welmoet H. Both are KFPS Studbook mares. Our Ster mare, Zoraja, is no longer available for breeding. Breeding lease is a one-time fee of $2,500 OR monthly fee of $200 with a down-payment of $300.
